The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are looking forward to spending Easter with their children, the Earl of Wessex and Lady Louise Windsor. While the family’s plans for the spring holiday have yet to be confirmed, it is expected that Prince Edward and Sophie will attend the Easter Sunday service.

Traditionally, Queen Elizabeth II has hosted her family in Windsor for Easter, with the entire family attending the church service at St George’s Chapel. The Earl and Countess of Wessex live in Bagshot Park in Surrey, which is just ten miles from Windsor, making it easy for them to attend the Easter service. Many other members of the family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, also live nearby.

While King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla have celebrated Easter privately at their Scottish residence, Birkhall, in recent years, it is expected that they will continue the late Queen’s tradition of hosting the family in Windsor. During Christmas last year, the King hosted his first Christmas at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

This year has been particularly significant for Edward and Sophie, as King Charles conferred the Dukedom of Edinburgh on Edward’s 59th birthday on March 10th. The title of Duke of Edinburgh was held by the late Prince Philip from 1947 until his passing in April 2021, when the title reverted to the Crown. Although Buckingham Palace previously announced that Edward would eventually succeed his father as the Duke of Edinburgh, this would only happen after the deaths of both Philip and the Queen. Meanwhile, Edward and Sophie’s son, James, Viscount Severn, has taken over his father’s former title.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have always prioritized spending time with their children and close family ties. This Easter, they will undoubtedly reflect on the changes that have taken place over the past year, including the loss of Prince Philip, while continuing the royal family’s traditions.

Despite recent challenges, the family has remained resilient and united. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and their children, Lady Louise Windsor and the Earl of Wessex, are sure to have a meaningful and enjoyable Easter together. As the spring holiday approaches, we look forward to seeing how the royal family will celebrate and continue to honor their longstanding traditions.
