Princess Anne opened the Tortoise Tunnel at Jersey Zoo

Princess Anne made a visit to Jersey Zoological Park on July 18, 2023. This zoological park was founded in 1959 on the island of Jersey in the English Channel by Gerald Durrell, a naturalist and writer. During her visit, the Princess had the honor of inaugurating the Tortoise Tunnel, a modern enclosure designed for four giant Aldabra tortoises at Jersey Zoo.

For numerous years, the charity has been engaged in an island restoration initiative in Mauritius, focusing on Aldabra tortoises. Their efforts involve the restoration of crucial ecosystems that were lost following the extinction of native tortoises. Since 1972, the Princess has served as the Patron of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
