Prince William announces exciting Earthshot Prize line-up as family break comes to an end

Amidst the impending Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony scheduled for the upcoming month in Singapore, a constellation of eminent personalities is set to grace the event. Notably, fans of the popular show, “Ted Lasso,” will be delighted to learn that Hannah Waddingham, a luminary from the series, will assume the role of the distinguished host on the 7th of November.

The 49-year-old Emmy Award-winning actor expressed her elation ahead of the event, stating, “I am absolutely thrilled to preside over the prestigious Earthshot Prize Awards in Singapore this year. The accomplishments of the 2023 Prize Finalists serve as a beacon of hope, underscoring the potential of optimism, innovation, and human ingenuity. It is a momentous privilege to collaborate with The Prince of Wales in ushering this exciting evening and to contribute to the global dissemination of the inspirational narratives and solutions presented by the Finalists.”

Distinguished presenters for the occasion include Cate Blanchett, an Academy Award recipient and esteemed member of the Earthshot Prize Council, Lana Condor, renowned for her role in “To All The Boys,” Robert Irwin, a fervent wildlife conservationist, and Nomzamo Mbatha, a distinguished actor and humanitarian.

Cate Blanchett shared her thoughts, affirming, “The Earthshot Prize once again spotlights and incentivizes audacious, forward-thinking, and imaginative solutions that can be rapidly scaled. In a world where inaction and despair are luxuries we cannot afford, the extraordinary climate solutions from across the globe offer a genuine cause for hope. These climate solutions, as showcased by the Prize, are profoundly exciting, primarily due to their simplicity, feasibility, and inevitability. They represent a paradigm shift, akin to all truly transformative ideas, leaving us wondering, ‘How did we not contemplate and implement these sooner?’ I take great pride in contributing, albeit in a small way, to the revelation of the victors.”

Kensington Palace has officially confirmed that the evening’s entertainment will feature performances by Bastille and OneRepublic, with the promise of more to come. Prince William, aged 41, the progenitor of the Earthshot Prize in 2020, will take center stage to deliver his reflections, celebrating the endeavors of this year’s finalists.

The Earthshot Prize bestows £1 million to each of its five category winners annually to facilitate the amplification of their environmental concepts. In preceding years, these grand celebrations took place at London’s Alexandra Palace and in Boston in 2021 and 2022, respectively. During his individual visit commencing on the 5th of November, Prince William will partake in dragon boating, engage with the local community in Singapore to glean insights into their efforts to safeguard the planet, and oversee a “fellowship” retreat, affording networking opportunities for the 15 Earthshot Prize finalists.

A spokesperson from Kensington Palace shared their anticipation ahead of the impending trip, stating, “The Prince eagerly anticipates his sojourn to Singapore and has immense ambitions for both the Earthshot Prize and United for Wildlife during his stay there.”

The Palace further added, “The Prince is resolute in capitalizing on the opportunity presented by his presence in Southeast Asia to enhance the visibility of the Earthshot Prize victors and finalists, and to firmly establish their solutions to some of the most formidable environmental challenges on the global stage. Additionally, he is steadfast in illuminating the reprehensible illicit wildlife trade that United for Wildlife tirelessly combats and in attracting a larger consortium of partners to support this crucial mission.”
