Next week, Prince William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, have a special night planned. They’re going to the Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall with Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. Sadly, their three kids – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – won’t be there, and here’s why.
Even though the show is after school, the young royals won’t be in the royal box with their parents. Back in 2019, when William and Kate went to a similar event, the kids were curious and wanted to join. However, the royal mom had to say, “Not on a school night!”
Prince George is in Year Six at Lambrook preparatory school in Berkshire. His siblings, Charlotte and Louis, are in Year Four and Year One. George recently tackled some big tests, probably entrance exams for his next school.
The Royal Variety Performance, hosted by Bradley Walsh, promises exciting acts. Cher, a Disney celebration, and the winner of 2023 Britain’s Got Talent, comedian Viggo Venn, will be part of the show. Disney favorites like The Lion King, Frozen, Aladdin, Hercules, and Beauty & The Beast will also take the stage.
Pop rock band McFly, singer Rick Astley, pop star Zara Larsson, and singer-songwriter Paloma Faith are set to perform. Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, accompanied by the English National Opera (ENO) chorus, will join them. The night includes Beverley Knight, the cast of Sister Act, Argentinian dancers Malevo, and a magical performance from Derren Brown’s West End creation Unbelievable.
The show will pay tribute to theatre producer Bill Kenwright, featuring Spice Girls singer Melanie Chisholm. Pianist Lang Lang, along with the winner of Channel 4’s competition show The Piano, Lucy, will add to the magic.
This marks William and Kate’s fifth time at the Royal Variety Performance, having attended in 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2021.
The Princess always shines in stunning evening gowns, from an ice blue embellished Jenny Packham number to a black lace McQueen dress.
Before the festive season, William and Kate have a busy schedule. The Princess is hosting a Christmas carol concert on 8 December at Westminster Abbey.
