The Princess of Wales, accompanied by Prince William and their two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, appeared to be in her element as she settled into her seat in the Royal Box at Wimbledon on Sunday. Prior to the thrilling five-set match between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the Men’s Singles Final, Princess Kate made the most of her time by engaging in conversations with various guests, including notable figures like Billie Jean King, James Norton, Rachel Weisz, and Daniel Craig.
Amongst the captured moments, there was a touching instance that almost went unnoticed. In recently released images, the royal mother caught the eye of someone she recognized from the crowd.
Last year at Wimbledon, Princess Kate, who serves as the patron of the Lawn Tennis Association, lovingly blew a kiss in the direction of someone in the crowd. While it remains unknown whom she specifically aimed the gesture at, it is plausible that one of her family members, such as her parents Michael and Carole Middleton, may have been present at the event.
The Middleton family, known for their passion for tennis, frequently attends the tournament and is regularly spotted there. On a previous occasion at Wimbledon, the Princess of Wales, aged 41, engaged in a brief conversation with Emma Raducanu, a former US Open winner, during breaks between matches. During their chat, Princess Kate fondly recalled the times when she would queue up for the renowned tennis tournament alongside her father Michael Middleton and her sister Pippa.
“We used to arrive at the crack of dawn, maybe not camping overnight but definitely early in the morning,” she shared with the tennis star.
In January 2018, Kate participated in the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative training sessions and engaged with young students. During this time, the royal, who was expecting Prince Louis, expressed her fondness for tennis and shared that she missed playing the sport.
“I have a great love for tennis; I think it’s a fantastic sport. I used to be quite athletic when I was younger, although now with my growing family, I have fewer opportunities. Nevertheless, I encourage you all to continue playing tennis. Staying active, as everyone has emphasized today, is truly wonderful. It has been a genuine pleasure to meet each and every one of you,” she remarked.
