Princess Eugenie has written a heartfelt message on Instagram to honor the memory of her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022. In her message, the youngest daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew expressed her thoughts, saying, “Today, I am thinking of you. I miss you deeply, but I also remember the life of service, love, and commitment you dedicated to everyone and to your beloved family, who cherished you immensely.”
Accompanied by an unseen photo of the grandmother-granddaughter pair, Princess Eugenie included the following words: “I am eternally thankful to you, and you will forever remain in my heart. [two heart emojis].”
Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully during her Platinum Jubilee year at the age of 96. She held the record as the longest-reigning British monarch and devoted her life to royal responsibilities.
The late queen also served as a loving grandmother to her eight grandchildren: Prince William, Prince Harry, Zara Tindall, Peter Philips, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, along with Lady Louise Windsor and her brother, the Earl of Wessex.
Shortly after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie jointly issued a statement in which they expressed gratitude to their grandmother, saying, “We are thankful for the laughter, the inclusion, the shared moments of picking heather and raspberries, the military parades, the tea times, the comfort, and the happiness you brought us.”
They expressed in their message: “Our beloved Grandmother, we have struggled to find adequate words since you departed from us. In the wake of your absence, we have experienced both tears and laughter, moments of silence and lively conversations, embraces and solitude. We, like countless others, believed you would always be with us, and we deeply feel your absence. You were the matriarch of our family, our guiding light, the loving presence that supported us through life’s journey. Your teachings and memories will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”
The royal sisters went on to say, “At this moment, dear Grandmother, all we want to convey is our gratitude. We thank you for bringing laughter into our lives, for including us in your world, for joining us in activities like gathering heather and picking raspberries, for witnessing military parades, for sharing tea times, for providing comfort, and for bringing us joy. You, in your authentic self, may never fully comprehend the profound impact you had on our family and countless individuals worldwide.”
Referring to the global outpouring of tributes, they also mentioned: “The entire world grieves your passing, and the tributes would undoubtedly bring a smile to your face. They authentically reflect the extraordinary leader that you were. We take solace in knowing you are reunited with Grandpa. Farewell, beloved Grandmother; it has been a privilege of a lifetime to be your granddaughters, and we are immensely proud of you.”
The royal sisters frequently expressed their affection for their grandmother. At the Platinum Jubilee festivities held in June 2022, Princess Eugenie praised Queen Elizabeth and shared her hopes for her son, August, to emulate her. In an article for The Spectator, Princess Eugenie remarked, “I reflect on my grandmother and the enduring values she has represented for numerous individuals and our family throughout these seven decades. I aspire for Augie to inherit her patience, her serenity, and her benevolence, all while retaining the ability to find humor in himself and maintain a sparkle in his eye.”
