A source from Buckingham Palace has refuted a claim made by a British tabloid, The Sun, which stated that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan were not included in the invitation list for a royal memorial commemorating the one-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. The tabloid alleged that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were excluded from the event, with the royal family’s senior members reportedly not engaging with them. The article also mentioned that Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, despite their controversial status, were said to be among the guests invited to the memorial. It was noted that despite this claim, Prince Harry and Meghan are scheduled to be in Europe next month for the 2023 Invictus Games.
Nevertheless, a source from the palace has informed Bazaar.com that these rumors are “not accurate.” The source clarifies that there are no arrangements in place for a public event or a private family gathering to commemorate the anniversary. The reports circulating today suggesting otherwise have been deemed incorrect.
The insider further elaborated that King Charles II and Queen Camilla intend to observe the day “quietly and privately,” following the same tradition as Queen Elizabeth did when observing anniversaries of her father’s, King George VI, passing.
Although the exact plans of Harry and Meghan for the anniversary of the queen’s demise are yet to be revealed, the couple will be in close proximity to their former residence as they participate in the sixth Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany. This significant sports event is scheduled to occur from September 9 to 16.
