The Princess of Wales and First Lady Jill Biden may be reunited later this year, as the King has invited US President Joe Biden for a state visit, which he has accepted.
State visits are traditionally marked with a military guard of honour and a state banquet attended by senior members of the royal family. However, it remains to be seen whether the Princess of Wales and Mrs Biden will be present at these events.
The two women previously teamed up during the G7 Summit in Cornwall in 2021, where they led a roundtable discussion on the early years sector at a primary school. Their reunion during the state visit could provide an opportunity to continue their work on issues such as climate change.
News of the state visit invitation comes after it was confirmed that Mr Biden, who is 80 years old, will not be attending Charles’s coronation on May 6. Instead, Mrs Biden will represent the USA.
During a recent telephone call, Mr Biden congratulated the King on his upcoming coronation and expressed his desire to visit again soon. It was during this call that the King offered for Mr Biden to come on a state visit, an invitation which the President accepted.
A spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the arrangement, and the exact timeline for the visit remains unknown. However, the spokeswoman for the White House confirmed that Mr Biden and the King have a good relationship, and that there are many shared values and issues that they want to continue to discuss.
The upcoming state visit will undoubtedly be a significant event, and could provide an opportunity for the Princess of Wales and Mrs Biden to collaborate further on issues they both care about.
